Week ending 06/08/2017 The smell of burnt diesel fuel and fresh cut hay filled the country side this week. Seems haying kicked into high gear in nearly every area of the state. Still some of those normal pop up showers that can really frustrate but 10-15 percent chances of pop up afternoon showers did not slow cutters. Several farmers are saying the delay in cutting has helped yields as some undergrowth has shown up along with some good stands of clover making for some decent quality mixed grass hay. It has also been pointed out the difference between fertilized areas and none is as drastic as anyone can remember. Hay movement is light, supplies are moderate, demand is light and prices are steady to weak. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).
