Missouri Weekly Hay Summary and Fescue Seed Report

Week ending 06/30/2017

North Missouri saw several rounds of storms this week. Heavy rains in
some areas caused flash flooding as well. Not exactly the ideal way but
enough moisture should have sank in to remove the area from the next drought
monitor. Other areas of the state have seen some spotty rains but nothing
to the affect that north MO saw. Wheat harvest is near 80% complete now, a
lot of straw offerings on the market now. Other hay is also near 80% complete
many farmers have wrapped up spring cutting and got equipment cleaned up
and put away. Hay movement is light, supplies are moderate, demand is light
and prices are steady. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay
directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a
directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay
http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless
specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales
based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).

Fair to Good quality Bromegrass 50.00-80.00

Wheat straw 3.00-5.00 per small square bale

Fescue season is winding down now several stations saying they will start to
close up for the season after this holiday weekend if they have not already
done so. Hopes were not high for a good season from the start and
unfortunately there was no good surprises as harvest began. It has been a
few years since the state has had a really good crop of seed and this
season was not the one to break that streak.

(Dry: Moisture 12-14% - Wet: Moisture greater than 14%)
(Prices are per lb.) prices reported at .48 wet, .50 dry.
