Compared to last week, trade activity light on moderate demand. With heavy
snowpack in the mountains and basin index percentages at current levels, farmers
are optimistic that irrigation water will be readily available for the upcoming
hay season. Trade activity continues to be mostly on retail/stable hay as
feedlots and dairies have procured ample supply to get to new crop. Carryover
is expected to be minimal, if any. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor’s High
Plains summary for March 19, 2019, most of the High Plains were impacted by a
major winter storm early in the drought week that brought blizzard conditions,
heavy rain, and dangerous flooding. Except for the western region where
abnormally dry conditions (D0) are present, the remainder of Colorado saw
widespread improvement, due to the recent storm. USDA NRCS Colorado SNOTEL River
Basin Index percentages for Thursday, March 21, 2019: Gunnison 152, Upper
Colorado 138, South Platte 129, Laramie and North Platte 126, Yampa and White

Juan 160. The next available report will be Thursday, March 28, 2019. All
