Week Ending March 29, 2019
Compared to last week alfalfa hay sold fully steady. Grass hay steady
to 5.00 higher. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets steady. Ground and delivered
hay fully steady. Buyer inquiry was very good as several producers
across the state have lost piles of bales from flood damage. Also, county
roads and fields are very soft and almost impossible to haul hay. These
problems have turned buyers to ground and delivered sources or to other
hay sellers. One would think the state is out of hay but, really it’s
just displaced for the time being. When the roads dry up many producers
will be able to get to stock piled hay for feeding needs. Some may even
get to carry some hay over till next year, as many livestock owners are a
few weeks away from summer grass. Some producers, or people involved
with agriculture within state and out of state have been very generous in
donating hay to various locations across Nebraska. All sales are dollars
per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted.
