Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay sold fully steady.
Demand remains good for hay in squares to ship out of
the state and continues to do so on a daily basis. Local
demand continues to improve as cold snowy weather has
increased hay usage. More snow and bitter cold is forecast
for this weekend as lows are expected to hover at or near
20 below for much of Central and Eastern Montana. Cold
and snow this week helped move straw supplies as well.
Many ranchers start to calve the first of March and straw
movement this week has been heavier than the last few
weeks as cold and snowy conditions have helped spur straw
usage. Despite larger sales volume, straw continue to move
at steady money. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB
unless otherwise noted.
