Nebraska Hay Summary

Week Ending April 05, 2019


  Compared to last week alfalfa and grass hay sold steady. Sun-cured 
alfalfa pellets 10.00 higher. Ground and delivered mostly steady, with 
the western side of the state trading 3.00 higher. Demand was mostly 
good, some contacts stated the phone wasn’t quite as busy this week from 
prospective buyers looking for hay. Road conditions continue to be 
problematic for some areas across the state. Very few producers have 
tried to bale cornstalks this week. Most of these bales are poor quality 
but they should be able to grind them. Several reports that hay grinders 
having a hard time moving product through their machines from the result 
of bales are extremely wet. Many hope that warm temps will arrive soon to 
help annual forages grow and dry out boggy areas. Some producers, or 
people involved with agriculture within state and out of state have been 
very generous in donating hay to various locations across Nebraska. For

noted. 

Eastern/Central Nebraska
Alfalfa:  Good large rounds 110.00. Alfalfa/Orchard mix: Good to Premium 
large squares 165.00-175.00. Grass Hay: Premium large rounds 100.00-
110.00; Good large rounds 90.00-95.00; Fair large rounds 60.00-75.00. 
Premium small squares 160.00-170.00. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets 15 percent 
protein or better 270.00.  

Platte Valley area of Nebraska
Alfalfa: Good large round bales 110.00-115.00. Ground and delivered 
alfalfa 150.00-160.00. Ground and delivered alfalfa-stubble mix 135.00-
145.00. Ground and delivered cornstalks 110.00. 

Western Nebraska
Alfalfa: Good large squares 160.00. Good large rounds 130.00-140.00. 
Straw in large squares 80.00. Ground and delivered alfalfa 153.00-158.00. 
Sun-cured alfalfa pellets 15 percent protein 245.00.
