South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay steady to higher undertones on a
light reported volume week, grass hay firm. No reported sales of straw
or corn stalks. Good to very good demand for all types and qualities of
hay, very good demand for straw and stalks. The continued wet weather
has made it very difficult to get hay loaded on trucks and to get loaded
trucks down gravel roads. Rain fell at midweek just as the ground was
beginning to firm, overcast and damp weather finished out the week.
More rain in the forecast for the weekend and into next week. Load
limits on paved roads also making it difficult for hay haulers. All hay
and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted.
