Colorado Hay Report

Compared to last week, trade activity light. Demand on grass hay across the
state very good due to availability. Lower testing alfalfa hay prices firm on
good demand due to availability. Dairy quality alfalfa continues to move east
out of the state due to a lack of higher testing hay in those regions.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor for February 20, 2018, a storm system
moving through the southwest United States led to moderate or heavy
precipitation in parts of New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado, with the
heaviest Colorado precipitation taking place in the San Juan Mountains. The
USDA NRCS National Water and Climate Center’s Colorado SNOTEL Snow/Precipitation
Update Report for Thursday, February 22, 2018 has the Gunnison River Basin Snow
Water Equivalent at 62 percent, the Upper Colorado River basin at 85 percent,
the South Platte River Basin at 90 percent, the Laramie and North Platte River
Basins at 90 percent, the Yampa and White River Basins at 80 percent, the
Arkansas River Basin at 65 percent, the Upper Rio Grande Basin at 56 percent and
the San Miguel, Dolores, Animas and San Juan River Basins at 55 percent as a
percent of the median of all SNOTEL sites in each basin compared to previous
years. The next available report will be Thursday, March 1, 2018. All prices
reported are FOB at the stack or barn unless otherwise noted. Prices reflect
