Week ending 02/02/2018 Somewhat of a rare statement the last few months but the past week was pretty average as far as late January weather goes. The state continues to suffer from drought conditions as moisture has been in extremely short supply. Farmers are feeding a lot of hay and some are actually depleting what seemed to be a surplus of hay just a few month ago. Overall though there is still a moderate supply of hay and not really any problems finding hay to buy if that is needed. High quality top end hay however like nearly every year does required a bit more looking and leg work to locate. Hay supplies are moderate, demand is moderate and prices are steady to firm. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or for a directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and per ton unless specified and on most recent reported sales price listed as round bales based generally on 5x6 bales with weights of approximately 1200-1500 lbs).
