Week Ending February 23, 2018 Compared to last week, alfalfa hay sold unevenly steady. Grass hay sold Fully steady. Ground and delivered hay steady and Dehy pellets steady. Demand was good this week. A wide range of buyers were on the market across the state. Dry weather concerns are in the back of a lot of people minds right now and producers of livestock and feedlots with available cash flow have been stock piling hay incase the dryness continues within “their” areas. Cash prices this week look favorable to many buyers trying to ward off the sharply high prices many had to pay in the end of 2012 through 2013. Several feedlots have made large contracts for ground and delivered products trying to plan ahead in case hay prices continue to climb. There has been some inquiry about “new crop” alfalfa and where it may be priced. Especially from areas that are showing up on the National drought monitor. All sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise noted. Eastern/Central Nebraska Alfalfa: Good large square bales 130.00-150.00. Premium large round bales 90.00-100.00.
