Iowa Hay Summary

Week Ending  February 23, 2018

For this week: Hay prices trended mostly 5.00 lower. Due to the ice storms experienced 
throughout the state demand was light, with moderate supply. Temperatures starting off the 
weekend will be in the 30's, Increasing to the 40's as the work week progresses.

Grain movement in January was mostly light with hopes grain prices will improve. Fluctuations in
temperatures were hard on livestock and caused some health issues. Producers also had to 
increase feed rations to livestock to help gain weight and give extra energy to cattle during 
colder days. Overall, hay supplies remain adequate except in south centran and southeastern Iowa
which experienced drought conditions last year.

According to the Drought Monitor 41.59% of Iowa is seeing abnormally dry conditions. With a 
warm and moist air mass in place ahead of multiple storm systems affecting the region this week,
heavy precipitation fell over much of the Midwest region. All prices FOB per ton unless otherwise
noted.
