South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

Compared to last week: All classes of hay remain steady.
Light reported volume as demand only moderate this week. More demand
from West River than East River but freight costs are limiting what
cattle producers can pay. More inquiry reported from West River as
hay supplies are much more limited. Dairy operations are struggling
with low milk prices and are looking for ways to reduce their feed
expenses. Snow moved into the area this week but many areas of South
Dakota have had a very open winter which has allowed cattle producers to
stretch their hay supplies. All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB,
unless otherwise noted.
