South Dakota Weekly Hay Summary

All prices per ton, unless noted, FOB the stack.

   Compared to last week:  All classes sold steady.  Demand moderate in the 
eastern half of the state with demand getting higher in the western half of the 
state.  The heart of cow/calf country is in a severe drought and the remainder 
of west river considered either abnormal or in moderate drought conditions.  
Depressed milk futures has the dairy industry looking to cheapen up their feed 
costs as much as they can.  Class III Milk Futures are below 15.00 per cwt until 
mid-summer.  All hay and straw sold by the ton FOB, unless otherwise noted. 

East River:
   Alfalfa:  Supreme: Large Squares, 190.00, Delivered to WI 225.00; Small 
Squares, 210.00.
Good:  Large Squares, 155.00.  Fair to Good:  Large Rounds, 145.00.  Fair:  
Large Rounds,
120.00-135.00.

   Sun-cured Alfalfa pellets:  15 pct 175.00; 17 pct 180.00.  Alfalfa
Meal:  17 pct 185.00.

   Alfalfa/Grass Mix:  Premium: Large Squares, 185.00.

   Grass:  Premium:  Large Squares, 75.00-85.00 per bale in Small Lots.  Good to 
Premium:
Large Rounds, 135.00.  Utility to Fair:  Large Rounds, 90.00.

   Wheat Straw:  Large Squares, 110.00-115.00.  Large Rounds, 90.00.

   Cornstalks:  Large Rounds, 45.00, 50.00 del short haul.

West River:
   Alfalfa:  Fair:  Large Rounds, 165.00 Del.
