Ground alfalfa movement:  Southwest/South Central

Hay market activity moderate; Demand good for both grinding alfalfa and grass 
hay. Alfalfa supplies continue to dwindle and buyers are actively searching for 
all qualities. Grass hay inquiries have increased. Prices overall are generally 
steady with grinding alfalfa continuing to strengthen.  Once again, northern 
counties were the recipients of snow fall.  Unfortunately, current drought 
conditions continue to expand.   The abnormally dry (D0) category is at 100 pct, 
moderate drought (D1) is at 62 pct, severe drought (D2) is at 36 pct and extreme

Southwest Kansas  
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, grinding alfalfa and ground/delivered steady; movement 
moderate. Alfalfa: horse, small squares 240.00-250.00. Dairy, .85-.95/point RFV, 
Supreme 155.00-175.00, Premium 155.00-165.00, Good 135.00-155.00.  Stock or Dry 
Cow alfalfa, 115.00-125.00.  Fair/Good grinding alfalfa, 130.00-140.00 with an 
instance at 150.00. Ground and delivered locally to feedlots and dairies, 
145.00-165.00 with an instance at 165.00. Grass hay: Bluestem large squares 
80.00-90.00. The week of 2/4-2/10, 10,324T of grinding alfalfa and 2,094T of 
dairy alfalfa were delivered. Cornstalks: large rounds 55.00-65.00, ground and 
delivered 70.00-75.00. The average paid by feedlots on February 1 for alfalfa 
ground and delivered was 143.21, up 5.89 from last month, usage was 742T/day, dn 
8 pct, and total usage was 23,007T.

South Central Kansas 
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, alfalfa pellets, stock cow and ground/delivered 
steady, grinding alfalfa steady to 5.00 higher; movement moderate. Alfalfa: 
horse, small squares 240.00-245.00. Dairy, .90-.95/point RFV. Supreme 155.00-
165.00, Premium 150.00-160.00, Good 130.00-150.00. Stock cow alfalfa, 135.00-
140.00 delivered. Fair/Good grinding alfalfa, 110.00-125.00 with instance at 
130.00.  Ground and delivered locally to feedlots 135.00-145.00. Alfalfa 
pellets: Sun Cured 15 pct protein 175.00-180.00, 17 pct protein 180.00-190.00, 
Dehydrated 17 pct 207.00-217.00. The week of 2/4-2/10, 4,926T of grinding 
alfalfa and 933T of dairy alfalfa were delivered. Grass hay: bluestem, large 
squares 80.00-90.00, large rounds 65.00-75.00; Oat hay, large squares 95.00-
100.00, Sudan large rounds 70.00-75.00. Cornstalks: large rounds 55.00-60.00, 
cornstalks ground and delivered 60.00-70.00, Straw mid to large squares 50.00-
65.00. The average paid by feedlots on February 1 for alfalfa ground and 
delivered was 134.39, up 2.60 from last month, usage was 401T/day, up 20 pct, 
and total usage was 12,437T.

Southeast Kansas 
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, grinding alfalfa, ground/delivered and horse/goat 
steady; movement slow to moderate.  Alfalfa: horse or goat, 215.00-225.00.  
Dairy .80-.90/point RFV. Stock cow alfalfa 120.00-130.00.  Fair/Good grinding 
alfalfa 95.00-105.00. Ground and delivered, 115.00-125.00. Grass hay: bluestem, 
premium small squares 110.00-120.00 with instances at 130.00-140.00. Good, mid 
and large squares 80.00-100.00, large rounds 65.00-75.00. Brome: small squares 
6.00-8.00/bale. Good, mid and large squares 100.00-120.00, large rounds 70.00-
80.00. Oat hay, large rounds 75.00-85.00. The week of 1/28-2/3, 1,369T of grass 
hay were delivered. Straw, mid and large squares 50.00-60.00. Mulch, large 
rounds 50.00-55.00. 

Northwest Kansas  
Dairy alfalfa, grinding alfalfa and ground/delivered steady; movement slow to 
moderate. Alfalfa: small squares, 5.00-6.00/bale. Horse or goat, 175.00-200.00. 
Dairy, Premium/Supreme .80-.95/point RFV. Stock cow, fair/good 110.00-120.00. 
Fair/good grinding alfalfa, 90.00-100.00. Ground and delivered locally to 
feedlots and dairies, 105.00-110.00. Cornstalks, large rounds 80.00-85.00.

North Central-Northeast Kansas 
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, grinding alfalfa, ground/delivered steady; movement 
slow to moderate.  Alfalfa: horse, small squares 9.00-10.00/bale. Dairy .95-
1.05/point RFV, Supreme 175.00-195.00, Premium 170.00-185.00, Good 150.00-
170.00.  Stock Cow, good 110.00-120.00. Fair/Good, grinding alfalfa, 100.00-
110.00 with an instance at 120.00. Ground and delivered, 125.00-140.00 Grass 
hay: bluestem, small squares 5.00-6.00/bale, large squares 95.00-105.00, large
