Hay market activity slow to moderate; Demand good for all alfalfa, as supplies 
and offerings for alfalfa continue to be scarce. Grass hay inquiries have 
increased. Prices overall are generally steady. Windy and cold weather persists 
for much of the state and much of the northern half of the state saw at least 
some snow accumulation over the weekend.     According to the U.S. Drought 
Monitor, moderate and severe drought expanded in Kansas. It is reported that 
wells are drying up, creeks and springs are going dry, and ponds are near 2012 
drought levels, especially in the central part of the state. According to end-
of-January USDA reports, 79% of the topsoil in Kansas was rated short to very 
short of moisture (dry to very dry) and 44% of the winter wheat crop was in poor 
to very poor condition. The abnormally dry (D0) category is at 100 pct, moderate 
drought (D1) is at 65 pct, severe drought (D2) is at 29 pct and extreme drought

Southwest Kansas  
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, and ground/delivered steady, grinding alfalfa 5.00 
higher; movement moderate. Alfalfa: horse, small squares 240.00-250.00. Dairy, 
.85-.95/point RFV, Supreme 155.00-175.00, Premium 155.00-165.00, Good 135.00-
155.00.  Stock or Dry Cow alfalfa, 115.00-125.00.  Fair/Good grinding alfalfa, 
130.00-140.00 with an instance at 150.00. Ground and delivered locally to 
feedlots and dairies, 145.00-155.00 with an instance at 160.00-165.00. Grass 
hay: Bluestem large squares 80.00-90.00. The week of 1/28-2/3, 9,217T of

South Central Kansas 
Dairy alfalfa, grass hay, alfalfa pellets, stock cow and ground/delivered 
steady, grinding alfalfa steady to 5.00 higher; movement moderate. Alfalfa: 
horse, small squares 240.00-245.00. Dairy, .90-.95/point RFV. Supreme 155.00-
165.00, Premium 150.00-160.00, Good 130.00-150.00. Stock cow alfalfa, 135.00-
140.00 delivered. Fair/Good grinding alfalfa, 110.00-125.00 with instance at 
130.00.  Ground and delivered locally to feedlots 135.00-145.00. Alfalfa 
pellets: Sun Cured 15 pct protein 175.00-180.00, 17 pct protein 180.00-190.00,

and large squares 80.00-100.00, large rounds 65.00-75.00. Brome: small squares 
6.00-8.00/bale. Good, mid and large squares 100.00-120.00, large rounds 70.00-

North Central-Northeast Kansas
