Hay trade mixed

In Nebraska, all reported forages sold steady. Demand was moderate to good. With the cold weather grass and alfalfa is slow to grow this spring and there has been some winter kill in area alfalfa fields, according to the USDA Market News Service, April 26. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Eastern/central—Good, large squares, $150-$165, large rounds, $110. Premium grass hay, large rounds, $100-$110, small squares, $160-$170; good, large rounds, $85-$95, small squares of brome grass, $7/bale; fair, large rounds, $60-$75. Cane, large rounds, $70, Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein or better, $270.
Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, large rounds, $110-$120, $140 delivered. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $140-$160. Ground and delivered alfalfa-stubble mix, $135-$145. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $95-$110.
Western—Good alfalfa, large squares, $160, large rounds, $130-$140; fair, large squares, $140. Straw, large squares, $80. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $153-$158. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $255.
In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, hay prices steady with very few reported sales this week. Wet ground conditions continue to make it very difficult to get hay transported. Demand remains very good for all types of hay and bedding.
East River—Premium alfalfa, large rounds, $200-$210; good, large squares, $180-$190; fair, large squares, $150, large rounds, $140-$165; utility, large rounds, $115-$128. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $230, 17% protein $240. Alfalfa meal 17%, $245. Good grass, large rounds, $150. Alfalfa grass mix, $150-$175. Straw, large rounds, $110/bale. Corn stalks, no reported sales.
West River—Premium alfalfa, no reported sales. Grass, no reported sales. Alfalfa grass mix, no reported sales.
In Iowa, all hay classes traded steady.

In Missouri, the supply of hay is light, demand is light to moderate and prices are steady.
Supreme alfalfa, RFV 185 $200-$250, small squares, $7-$10/bale; premium, RFV 170-180, $175-$200; good, RFV 150-170 $120-$160, small squares $5-$7/bale; fair, RFV 130-150, $100-$120. Good mixed grass hay, $100-$150, small squares, $5-$8/bale, (some alfalfa/grass mix). Fair/good mixed grass hay, $75-$125, small squares, $4-$6/bale; fair large rounds, $40-$75. In Oklahoma, alfalfa trade remains extremely light with supplies cleaned up and weather delaying first cutting. Demand mostly moderate for new crop. No market has been for new crop.
Central—New crop alfalfa, with rain damage, $175/ton. Old crop grass hay, good mixed grass hay, 5 x 5 and 5 x 6 bales, $50-$60/bale.
Eastern—Alfalfa, no recent sales confirmed. Old crop mixed grass hay, 5 x 6 bales, $55-$65.
Western—Premium alfalfa, large square bales, last confirmed sales, $200-$210; good, large rounds and squares, $180. Grinding hay, no test. Old crop mixed grass, good, rounds, $90-$110/ton. Mixed grass, 5 x 5 1/2 to 5 x 6 bales, $55-$70/bale.
In Texas, all hay classes of hay traded steady on light movement.
Panhandle/High Plains—Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, delivered $265-$295, small bales delivered, $297-$330; good/premium, large squares, $250-$265.
