Missouri Weekly Hay Summary

Week ending 5/31/2019

Heavy rains, major flooding, hail storms and tornados; to say it has been
a difficult spring would be a major understatement. Weather has farm
progress running way behind and on top of that many areas in the southern
half of the state have been infested with army worms in the last two
weeks. Not at all the spring which was eagerly looked forward to a couple
of months ago. Haying and spring planting are running way behind normal
progress. At some point the weather will break and hay will be bailed but
quality will be sacrificed as maturity of hay crops is past ideal. That
being said given the low supplies most farmers just want to get something
back in the barns. The supply of hay is light, demand is light and prices
are steady to weak without much activity or test of new crop hay at this
point. The Missouri Department of Agriculture has a hay directory
available for both buyers and sellers. To be listed, or to view the
directory visit http://mda.mo.gov/abd/haydirectory/ for
listings of hay http://agebb.missouri.edu/haylst/ (All prices f.o.b. and
