Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay sold generally steady. Hay
sales continue to be light this week. Many producers are saying
first cutting is behind schedule as cooler weather across the
state has slowed growth this spring. Rumblings of new crop contracts
continue this week however most producers are holding out hoping
for higher prices. Offerings of 110.00-115.00 are showing up across
much of western Montana, however most producers are passing hoping
for higher prices later this summer. Ranchers are still feeding hay
due to a slow spring as pastures are just starting to get enough
growth in eastern and central Montana to turn out pairs. This continues
to help ranchers feed through existing supplies, however, round supplies
continue to be large. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless
otherwise noted.
