Most hay prices remain steady

In Nebraska, all reported forages sold steady. Demand was moderate. Some contacts reported there has been more willing sellers this week than people willing to buy, according to the USDA Market News Service, May 3. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.
Eastern/central—Good, large squares, $150-$165. Premium grass hay, large rounds, $100-$110, small squares, $160-$170; good, large rounds, $85-$95; fair, large rounds, $60-$75. Cornstalks, large rounds, $52.50. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein or better, $270.
Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, large rounds, $110-$120, $140 delivered. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $140-$160. Ground and delivered alfalfa-stubble mix, $130-$145. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $95-$110.
Western—Good alfalfa, large squares, $160, large rounds, $130-$140; fair, large squares, $140. Straw, large squares, $80. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $153-$158. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $255.
In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, hay prices steady with very few reported sales this week.
East River—Premium alfalfa, large rounds, $200-$210; good, large squares, $180-$190; fair, large squares, $150-$160, large rounds, $140-$165; utility, large rounds, $115-$128. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $235, 17% protein $245. Alfalfa meal 17%, $250. Good grass, large rounds, $150. Alfalfa grass mix, $150-$175. In Iowa, all hay classes traded steady.

In Colorado, due to typical light seasonal trade activity, reporting of this market will resume when activity warrants. Coverage will resume typically early June to mid-June 2019.
In Missouri, the supply of hay is light, demand is light and prices are steady.
Supreme alfalfa, RFV 185 $200-$250, small squares, $7-$10/bale; premium, RFV 170-180, $175-$200; good, RFV 150-170 $120-$160, small squares $5-$7/bale; fair, RFV 130-150, $100-$120. In Oklahoma, alfalfa trade at a standstill as rain and spring storms are holding up first cutting. Demand for wheat hay is very good.
Central—New crop alfalfa, with rain damage, $175/ton. Old crop grass hay, good mixed grass hay, 5 x 5 and 5 x 6 bales, $50-$60/bale.
Eastern—Alfalfa, no recent sales confirmed. Old crop, good quality mixed grass hay, 5 x 5 and 5 x 6 bales $50-$60. Mixed grass hay in 4 x 5 bales $55-$65/bale.
Western—Premium alfalfa, no recent test. Old crop mixed grass, good, rounds, $90-$110/ton. Mixed grass, 5 x 5 1/2 to 5 x 6 bales, $55-$70/bale.
In Texas, most hay classes traded steady with instances $20 lower as new crop begins to trickle onto the market. Trade activity was light to moderate with the new crop supply entering the market.
Panhandle/High Plains—Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, delivered $265-$275, small bales delivered, $297-$330; good/premium, large squares, $250-$265. Ground and delivered to feedlots, average $220-$225, calf, $230-$235. Good/premium coastal bermuda, large bales, delivered, $205-$240, small bales, $360 delivered; fair/good, large bales, $180-$205. Wheat, large bales, delivered, $155-$195. Rye, large bales, delivered, $150. CRP, large bales, delivered, $85-$120.
