Compared to last week: All classes traded steady with moderate demand. This
time last year in region 6; dry cow hay was bringing 115.00-120.00. According
to the NASS Crop Progress Report October 15, 2018, high pressure aloft brought
about dry and warm conditions across much of the state at the start of the week.
A cooling trend developed at midweek. This brought temperatures to rest at below
normal levels for most areas. Light showers were reported over the higher
elevations of the southern Sierras on Wednesday and Thursday. By the weekend, a
warming trend became established as high pressure began to develop over the
area. This brought temperatures to rise to slightly above normal levels.
Temperature highs ranged from the upper 60s to lower 70s in the Sierras, upper
60s to upper 80s in the mountains, lower 70s upper 80s along the coast, upper
70s to upper 80s in the desert, and lower 80s to lower 90s in Central Valley.
Temperature lows ranged from the lower 20s to lower 40s in the Sierras, upper
30s to lower 60s in the desert, lower 40s to upper 40s in the mountains, lower
40s to mid 50s in the Central Valley, and lower 40s to lower 60s along the
coast. In the Sacramento Valley, rice, safflower, and corn harvest continued.
Sunflower, beans, and rice continued to be harvested in Sutter County. In Tulare
County, cotton harvest continued, alfalfa was cut and baled, and corn and
