Week Ending October 12, 2018
Iowa exerienced wet conditions at the beginning of the week, but dried as
the week progressed. Cooler temperatures accompanied the dryer weather.
Good quality hay was lackng at sales again this week. Buyers were willing
to pay up for better quality hay and beddings, but were limited on what was
available. According to NASS, the overall hay production per acre was 3.8 tons
in 2018 coimpared to 3.5 acres/ton in 2017. However, due to either excessive
heat or heavy rain, quality was less.
