Compared to last week, trade activity light on moderate to good demand.
Retail/Stable hay continues to receive higher premiums across the state compared
to last year. Current weather patterns are adding difficulty to hay drying
enough to be baled. According to the NASS Colorado Crop Progress report for
week ending September 30, 2018, stored feed supplies were rated 8 percent very
short, 28 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 3 percent surplus. 3rd
cutting alfalfa progress is at 94 percent, 4th cutting 45 percent. Pasture and
range conditions percentages are 28 percent Very Poor, 29 percent Poor, 17
percent Fair, 23 percent Good, and 3 percent Excellent. The next available
report will be Thursday, October 11, 2018. All prices reported are FOB at the
stack or barn unless otherwise noted. Prices reflect load lots of hay. If you
have hay for sale or need hay, use the services of the Colorado Department of
Agriculture website: www.coloradoagriculture.com.
