Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay prices sold mostly steady on limited
sales. Many producers are trying to get third cuttings finished and have
been waiting on mother nature to cooperate while others are finished and
have received rain and/or snow and are waiting to move hay inventories.
Ranchers have played the waiting game on stocking up for the winter. The
few sales that occurred were mostly in areas already getting an abundance
of snow and having enough just in case it continues. Hay movement was
slow to moderate again this week and prices mostly steady overall. Demand
for straw remains good as supplies are light to moderate with many
producers still trying to harvest grain as moisture has slowed progress.
All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless otherwise noted.
