Ground alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 8,348/3,082 Last week: 7,477/3,088 Last year: 9,286/3,243
Hay market trade activity is slow. Prices mostly steady and demand light to
moderate.
Farmers have been busy in the fields with harvest and continue baling fall hay.
Hay producers are stating that inquires have slowed considerably, possibly due
to price, weather or just being busy in the field. Alfalfa and feed hay prices
are mostly steady but there is a "hint' of softening in the air. Rain fell
across the state over the weekend, and although it will delay harvest and fall
hay production, it will be welcome in the exceptional drought-stricken areas of
the northeast. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the abnormally dry (D0)
category is at 7.5 pct., moderate drought (D1) is at 5 pct., severe drought (D2)
is at 4 pct., extreme drought (D3) is at 5 pct., and exceptional drought (D4) is
at .40 pct. If you have hay for sale, and/or need hay here in Kansas, use the
