Nebraska Hay Summary

Week Ending October 26, 2018

Compared to last week alfalfa sold mostly steady, instances 10.00
higher on the Western side of the state. Grass hay, ground and delivered
products and dehy pellets sold steady. Demand has picked up in the far
western areas of the state from buyers in dry areas of Colorado and from
feedlots and dairies in the same state. Demand was moderate from within
the Nebraska. Several prospective buyers are busy with harvest and do not
have time to procure hay. When harvest slows there is a very good change
demand will increase? Some producers continue to cut and bale frozen
alfalfa, grass and cane. Producers have been raking and baling cornstalks
and baling soybean stubble right behind the combine. Some contacts stated
they have a lot of acres of stalks and stubble to bale this fall. All
sales are dollars per ton FOB the field or hay barn, unless otherwise
noted.
