Week Ending October 19, 2018
A lot of buyers went home empty handed this week as the availability of hay
and straw at Iowa auctions was short. Additonally private growers had shedded
their current hay and straw crop, wanting higher prices than the current market
allowd. Dryer weather at the end of the week forced growers to decide between
harvesting field crops and forages/bedding. However, the longer term weather for
Iowa indicates a warmer than usual fall, allowing growers a chance to possibly
bale a 4th crop this year.
