Alfalfa trade slow. Movement was slow to moderate, most movement consisted of
hay purchased up to two weeks ago with delivery held up by rains. Demand was
mostly light for dairy hay, moderate for other alfalfa offerings. Dairy hay
demand lighter as many dairies currently purchasing corn silage instead of
alfalfa. Fourth cutting of alfalfa estimated at 95 percent complete, final
baling held up by rains. Northwestern Oklahoma received the first below
freezing temperatures and light snow this week. More rain is forecast for
the remainder of the week followed by warmer temperatures. Wheat planting was
66 percent completed, down 4 percent from average.
Market News continues to maintain an online hay directory for both in-state
and out-of-state hay producers. The directories are on the ODAFF homepage
at www.oda.state.ok.us. Producers wishing to list hay are encouraged to call
at 1-405-522-3753 or email jack.carson@ag.ok.gov.
