Ground alfalfa movement: Southwest/South Central
Tonnage: 7,477/3,088 Last week: 8,844/3,406 Last year: 8,915/4,090
Hay market trade activity is slow. Prices steady and demand light to moderate.
As we usher in October, Mother Nature is hesitant to give up summer
temperatures. Temperatures are expected to warm back into the 80's, after
experiencing fall-like weather over the weekend. Although there is talk of
softening of the market in the coming days, pricing does not prove this out.
Interest from out-of-state buyers remains strong as drought hit them
exceptionally hard. According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, eastern Kansas saw
extreme drought (D3) extended into the northern half of Osage County, as well as
southwestward into northeastern Marion County. The abnormally dry (D0) category
is at 6.5 pct., moderate drought (D1) is at 5 pct., severe drought (D2) is at 4
pct., extreme drought (D3) is at 5 pct., and exceptional drought (D4) is at .40
pct. If you have hay for sale, and/or need hay here in Kansas, use the services
