Weekly Montana Hay Report

Compared to last week: Alfalfa hay prices sold fully steady. 
Limited hay sales were seen this week as many ranchers are
busy marketing cattle. Demand from Colorado and southern 
Wyoming continues to be good. Limited loads of hay traded
into these areas this week. Demand for hay from Canada has
helped spur some interest in northern Montana this week, however
no sales were established as of this writing. Plenty of grazing 
remains available for ranchers as mostly mild weather is forecast
for the extended forecast. Dry weather has allowed producers to 
cut third cutting if they wish however a limited number of 
producers are opting to do so as hay supplies remain heavy.
Demand for straw remains good as supplies are light to moderate 
many producers have wrapped up grain harvest and are starting 
to market straw. All prices are dollars per ton and FOB unless 
otherwise noted.
